Singapore tourism tips

 Travel to Singapore by QATAR AIRWAYS

Some details about Singapore

- English is an official language of the country;

- According to the 1990 agreement spelling, the correct word is Singapore (with the initial S) and not with C, as it was then. I was very unsure of how to write and I ended up adopting the same S;

- The country's currency is the Singapore dollar;

- Singapore is a city-state that is south of Malaysia;

- The country is very rich! The city is pure ostentation, the cost of living is high, everything is expensive (especially for mortals who receive real), but none of this diminishes the interest in the place, after all, you do not have to be rich to enjoy Singapore! I say this because the city itself is very friendly and walk through its streets is a very pleasant walk.

The country may be small (only one city), but attractions abound! As I said, the city is first world, very different from Asian neighbors, beginning with the wealth and organization, that makes you forget you're in Southeast Asia. I do not mean that Singapore is perfect (almost!). We walked down the street and saw people from all over the world, speaking different languages and so we feel a lack of cultural identity.

The city is very safe Can you walk a lot and use and abuse of public transport without fear speaking in public transport, no need to buy a ticket each time you use the subway, just recharge it on the machines.

What to see in Singapore

In fact, I will tell you here what we saw in 2 of the 3 days we spent in the city: arrived on a day late and already left to wander; We spent the second day at Universal Studios and Sentosa Island (subject to a future post) and the third day we had to Manuela company, college time friend who lived a few years in the city and showed us some interesting places!

Clarke Quay, the neighborhood of our hotel which was the starting point for exploring the city. It's a very trendy place and has a very hot atmosphere by the river. By day, it's a quiet place, but at night the party does not have time to finish! They are bars and restaurants all over the place with the most varied gastronomic options.

Unhurried, we follow walking along the river and we could see the intense night life of the place. It was a lot of people in front of the bars chatting and having fun, like it was time for a different event in the city. But not on other days still in the same way and come to the conclusion that Singapore is like that: full of life!

We walked until we came to Boat Quay, a place that caught our attention because of the bronze statues in full size. Needless to say that we already enjoy seeing statues in the streets (see here other trips where we stopped to take pictures with statues: Porto and Bratislava).

In front of the statues of men talking, there is a bridge called Cavenagh Bridge, which is the suspension bridge oldest in Singapore, opened in 1870 to commemorate the British colonization of the country. Can you see a bit of it in the photo of the statues of boys playing in the river. The bridge is only for pedestrians and cyclists.

In the same place there is the Fullerton Hotel, a historic building which houses a hotel five luxurious super stars and a beautiful architecture!

We walked until we reached the place that is the symbol of Singapore Merlion Park, where we had a view of the famous hotel Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer (giant wheel that was once the largest in the world). The view is wonderful !!!

                          The statue of the Merlion and modern buildings in Singapore

                        The Merlion Park is a very nice place with free wifi and available for tourists, public toilet and dining options.

Merlion is the statue that has the head of a lion (representing the original name from the word "Singapore", which means "Lion City") in the body of a fish (which is the the fishing village, which was the country formerly ). The statue is the symbol of Singapore.

As we wanted to get closer to the Marina Bay Sands, we continued walking along the banks of the river to get to the complex where the hotel with the casino and shopping. To our surprise, we began to see a drive by the site and found that at that time was beginning the show of lights and water.

In the company of my friend Manu, we were walking through Chinatown, a place that she said that Chinatown Cinpagura was the most organized and clean Chinatown she's ever seen. And it's true! Everything goes in order there. We took the opportunity to buy souvenirs and try a fruit juice (options abound!).

We spent first in the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, a Chinese Buddhist temple very beautiful! As we were above the knee clothes, wear a kind of skirt, the site offers free.

Marina Bay Sands, for those who do not know, only guests can bathe in the infinity pool. Then we went up to the bar that is at the top (do not pay anything to climb) we take something, chatted and took the opportunity to see Singapore's high.
