Happy Birthday Epcot! History of Epcot

Travel to Disney by QATAR AIRWAYS

The idea came from Epcot Walt Disney himself when he realized that California would not have much room to grow.

The idea of Walt Disney for his next project was to create a completely new community with new technologies, where transportation was all underground, and people from different parts of the world could spread their culture, in order to generate a greater understanding among peoples .

This project soon received the name of Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow - abbreviated to EPCOT. The central Florida seemed to be ideal for this new project, which began with the construction of a theme park (Magic Kingdom - you can read his story here), so that tourists get used to the place and the company could raise cash.

Just before the start of construction of the Magic Kingdom in Florida, Walt Disney died in 1966. But plans continued as Walt wanted, and the Magic Kindom was opened in 1971.

Some time after the opening of the Magic Kingdom, executives and imagineers (name given to professionals who create almost everything at Disney - is a portmanteau of the imagination words and engineering) Disney began to think about how to turn the EPCOT project that Walt Disney both like in reality.

They soon realized that this "city of the future" designed by Walt Disney would be difficult to create. For starters, the Florida soil is marshy, that is, you can not make a network of tunnels there as he wanted. Then the imagineers had the idea of creating a theme park that encompass these ideas of Walt Disney.

And thus was born the EPCOT, on October 1, 1982. The park is divided into two large areas, like two parks. The first is the Future World, where most of the attractions, and when the park opened this area was dedicated to innovative attractions, with the latest technology.

The other area is the World Showcase, which is around a large pond and has permanent pavilions from 11 different countries. Walt Disney always enjoyed cultural diversity and he thought that if people could learn more about other cultures and understand the cultural differences in the world, wars would no longer happen.

If you walk around the World Showcase, starting from the left, you will see the countries in the following order: Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, Morocco France, the UK and Canada.

A curiosity: the initial idea was that the flag of the United States were at the entrance of the World Showcase. On each side of this pavilion, would the two countries bordering the US - Mexico and Canada. However, as the area of the World Showcase is too large, the imagineers thought it would take something there in the middle, to attract visitors there. So, they decided to change the flag of the United States of place, and it was built in the middle of World Showcase. But Mexico and Canada pavilions remain in their original locations, one on each side of the entrance. That is, when you visit the World Showcase, will start or Mexico or Canada.

Another interesting curiosity is that all employees of the pavilions of countries are natives of that country. That is, if you go to the flag of Norway, can talk to Norwegians in Morocco with Moroccan, etc. One of my favorite things to do at Epcot is strolling through the halls and chat with Cast Members from different countries, asking about their culture and learn a little more about that country.

Epcot has a lot of history, and I stand here telling all you guys, but this post would be huge. So I'll stop here today and who want to know more, you can feel free to ask here in the comments!
